Whales, Bears & Vancouver Island

Enjoy both natural wonders and wildlife watching in this week long tour that includes the lively Vancouver City and the beauty of the Pacific Rim National Park.  From whale watching to grizzly bears, eagles and fox you will get the chance to see these wonderful animals in their scenic natural habitat.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Typical Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Vancouver
Day 2 In the morning you take a car-ferry crossing to Victoria on Vancouver Island.  In the afternoon you will go on a powerboat to look for whales, seals, porpoises and other marine life.  Overnight in Victoria.
Day 3 Drive across Vancouver Island to its western shoreline today.  You will travel through ancient forests and provincial parks where you may catch a glimpse of bears, deer, wolves and cougars.

Overnight in Tofino..

Day 4 Spend some time out on the ocean today, searching for the Pacific Gray Whale, sea lions and puffins in Clayoquot Sound.

Later on you can explore a bit of the coastline of Long Beach with its wide sandy beaches and crashing surf.

Overnight in Tofino.

Day 5 Drive back to the eastern coast of Vancouver Island, stopping off to visit Horne Lake Caves where you can take a guided tour underground to see crystal formations and ancient fossils.  Or you can visit Cathedral Grove with its 800 year old trees, a fine example of an ancient forest.

You will also be able to see the native petroglyphs at Sproat Lake and waterfalls at Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park.

Overnight in Campbell River.

Day 6 Still in Campbell River you can explore the town, dubbed 'Salmon Capital of the World', view the rugged coastline or discover Strathcona Park, the oldest park in BC where you will find the highest waterfall in Canada, the 440 metre high Delta Falls.

Day 7 Leaving the car behind in Campbell River you fly 30 minutes by floatplane to Knight Inlet Lodge for your overnight stop.

Knight Inlet Lodge floats on large cedar booms and offers a unique spot to observe the Glendale River wildlife.  In Spring you will be able to see grizzly bears.

Overnight in Knight Inlet. Lunch and dinner included.

Day 8 Return to Campbell River by floatplane then take one of two different routes back to Vancouver.

Breakfast included. Overnight in Vancouver.

Day 9 Return flight from Vancouver International Airport.

Weather
In summer the weather is generally warm and pleasant, however it can rain and be cool on the coast and the mountain weather is often variable with cool evenings
