Lei

The well-known flower garlands, called Lei, symbolise the aloha spirit of friendship and goodwill. The most popular Lei are made with sweet-smelling plumeria (frangipani), tuberose, delicate pikake (jasmine), white ginger, petite rose buds, colorful carnations and orchids.

Although the flower Leis are recognised by everyone, Lei can be made from fruit, leaves, candy and even money. One should never refuse lei given as a gift.

Hawaiian Music

Wherever you are in the world, the sound of slack key guitar and ukulele mean Hawai'i.

The ukulele was introduced to the Hawaiians by the Portugese in 1879. The ukulele or leaping flea was adopted by the Hawaiians and is now an integral part of their music.
