Yosemite
If you only have one day in which to see Yosemite . . . go take yourself down to the river. Sit down. And cry. For you will be missing much of what is possibly the most beautiful place on earth.
Lodging within the National Park is in high demand during the summer months, so it is important to book as far in advance as possible.
There is only one road through the Park, Tioga Road which runs 39 miles West to East from Tuolomne Grove to Tioga Pass. Every few yards on this road affords breathtaking views
It is possible to take a guided tour by coach from San Francisco, but this involves 3 1/2 hour drive each way plus time spent in Yosemite. If possible though, it would be better to stay overnight at the edge of Yosemite and spend as much time as possible the next day in the Park.
Yosemite Valley is the most visited location in the Park. Here are world-famous El Capitan, Half Dome and Yosemite Falls.
Unfortunately the road only loops along one side of the valley and back down the opposite side. So you really need the time to take this drive rather than trying to drive this and the Tioga Road in one day.
