ITINERARY

Day 1 - Sydney to Barrington Tops

Depart Sydney and drive to the beautiful Barrington Tops, exploring the sub-tropical rainforest of the Barrington River on a guided interpretive walk. Take in the unique surroundings, learning about the flora and fauna of the area. In the afternoon, arrive at the Barrington River Lodge, an awesome property located in remote bush land. Enjoy the wildlife and scenery, or participate in activities such as horse riding or the unique night river kayaking for which this property is famous (both at own expense).

Day 2 - Barrington Tops to Surf Camp

Today we head to our secluded surf camp, located within walking distance to spectacular white sandy beaches on the northern NSW coast. Here we hook up with the crew from Mojo Surf (some of Australia's best surf instructors) whose mission is to get you standing on a board by the end of this trip! You will start with a theory lesson on surfing and then it's straight out to the beach to get you on a board. If surfing isn't for you perhaps sun bake on the crystal white sands or take a walk around the beautiful headland. When your afternoon of surfing or chilling out on the beach is complete, hang out and have dinner back at the Mojo Beach House. (B D)

Day 3 - Surf Camp to Byron Bay

After a delicious breakfast, hit the beach again for your morning surf lesson. By now you should have the basic surf techniques sorted and some aspiring surfers in the group will be turning at the base of clean breaking waves by the end of this lesson! Everyone who participates in surf school will be given a progressive surf certificate before heading north along the coast to Byron Bay. (B)

Day 4 - Byron Bay

This morning you will participate in your final surf lesson. The afternoon is free to soak up the chilled out atmosphere of Byron Bay. Overnight accommodation is included (meals at own expense).

Day 5 - Byron Bay to Brisbane

We head inland to spend time in Nimbin; a picturesque, alternative village with a colourful 'hippy' past! View a history of Nimbin in a converted butter factory turned into a movie theatre to get an insight into this 'weird' little town. Next we return to the coast, exploring the highlights as we travel through Surfers Paradise and the famous 40km stretch of golden beaches known as the Gold Coast enroute to Brisbane. Overnight Brisbane.

Day 6 - Brisbane to Hervey Bay

This morning we take a short break in the resort township of Noosa Heads before arriving at Rainbow Beach; a vibrant young town, with a relaxed atmosphere. Here we take part in a cultural demonstration, learning about the didgeridoo, boomerang and spear throwing. After a few hours at Rainbow Beach we head to Hervey Bay. Overnight Hervey Bay (B)

Days 7 & 8 : 2 day tour to Fraser Island

Spend the next two days exploring Fraser Island on a ranger guided 4WD safari, staying at Kingfisher Bay's Wilderness Lodge. You will drive along Seventy-Five Mile Beach, climb Indian Head and swim in the Champagne Pools and Lake McKenzie. Return to Hervey Bay for overnight stay. (Day 7: BLD Day 8: BL)

Day 9 - Hervey Bay to Kroombit Cattle Station

We travel through 'sugar cane' country this morning, passing through Bundaberg and then head inland through 'cattle country' to Kroombit Cattle Station. Here we experience genuine outback living with the chance to ride a mechanical bull and the opportunity to participate in other farm activities. Tonight you will taste a traditional camp oven dinner. (D)

Day 10 - Kroombit Cattle Station to Airlie Beach

After breakfast, we travel through Rockhampton as we head to the small sugar township of Sarina where we try our hand at 'barefoot bowling'; lawn bowls Aussie style. Following the coast we arrive at the "Gateway to the Whitsunday's", beautiful Airlie Beach. Overnight Airlie Beach (B)

Days 11, 12, 13 - Sailing the Whitsunday's - 3 days on a Maxi Yacht

You will have the opportunity to take the wheel, hoist the sails and grind the winches whilst exploring the most idyllic Whitsunday Islands on a yacht (up to 75 feet long) and worth millions of dollars. Return to Airlie Beach for overnight accommodation (Day 11: LD Day 12: BLD Day 13: BL)

Day 14 - Airlie Beach to Magnetic Island

We make our way to Townsville for the 30 minute, 8km ferry ride to Magnetic Island. More than two thirds of the Island is protected National Park with an abundance of wildlife. This afternoon we check out amazing views of the island from the top of an old WWII fort while spotting koalas in their natural habitat during a guided interpretive walk. Later, relax with a cold drink and watch the sun set over the ocean. Overnight Magnetic Island.

Day 15 - Magnetic Island to Mission Beach

We're up early to take part in a sea kayak tour in the stunning Marine Park waters (all equipment provided, including 'stinger' suits in summer) before heading to Mission Beach. Learn about the unique flightless Cassowary bird (up to 2 metres tall) on an hour long interpretive walk through local bush tracks. Overnight Mission Beach (B)

Day 16 - Mission Beach to Cairns via the 'Tablelands'

Departing Mission Beach we set out to explore the Atherton Tablelands. Enjoy a guided bush walk through towering rainforest, tropical farmland and take a dip in crater lakes and beautiful waterfalls. As we arrive into Cairns, our final stop is the AJ Hackett Bungy site, where you can experience a bungy jump or minjin swing (at own expense) finishing the tour on a high!
